Dear Bishop.
It is with absolute shock that we have to raise an amount of R50 million rand to build new offices. Who has that kind of money. so many parishes are in financial problems and here you want us to raise millions of rands. Bishop I think that your advises have advised you wrong.
Why would you want to build premises at the Cathedral, in that part of town for millions (consider ) when you can buy an office block in Bedfordview which has easy access from all highways, good public transport and is very central, for less than 10 million rand, have you considered that there are also office space in Killarney, Rosebank, Melrose and Sandton. All these are within drive from your house in Saxonwold.
I think that you must reconsider, seriously. I have spoken to a number of parishoners and they are just as upset as I am regarding the wasting of our hard earned money.
We are aware that your offices are getting small, but consider the safety aspect of Doornfonein, how safe will the million dollar office be. What happens when we have High mass and have to park.
Do you want the new offices to become a white elephant?
Please reconsider a safer and less exspensive area.
Yours inanticipation
Concerned Parisherners.

i would like also to agree with Mr Malinga that the 50M is very huge amount. I also feel that with the current project of the Sacred Heart in Walikerville a lot of money is requested at the same time. My view will be that we do one project at a time. I also learnt with great disappointment the selling of the Oblates Pre Novitiate while I agree with the reasons i strongly feel that place could be utilised for a project that could have benefitted the Arch Diocese a skills development centre, theological centre or a conference centre that would have generated money. I hope the Arch Bishop takes into account that in a number of parishes there is work going on eg building parish houses/ exstension of parishes.
My other point is that of consulatation I think before we embark on major projects as catholics we should be consulted or at least a task team be set up to look at possible avenues that can be looked into.
In Communion with Christ.

I want to commend our Arch Bishop and the entire clergy on the great work they are doing.I also wish to humbly draw their attention to the spiritual and physical problems of the laity. It always sadden my heart to notice that we the clergy are not living our lives like pratising catholics by living our lives by the dictates of the society we find ourself in.Atimes I will enter the church to find a baby with a sangoma robe tied around his or her mother for protection, even the rate of immorality among us the laity.
The rate of unemployment and hardship has driven our parishioners to patronise ministry outside the faith looking for breakthrough and prosperity.I humbly think that the catholic INSTITUTES,like catholic schools and hospitals should try to employ certain number of QUALIFIED catholics as their staff to help catholics and also to teach and preach the catholic faith and ethos. It is bad to see QUALIFIED catholics not working in our INSTITUTES and we still expect these unemployed ones to help in developing our arch diocese and parishes.

Hi i was baptise by Father John Smith in 1967 in Lenasia .I am diappointed by how far the Catholics in Lenasia has progress (regarding the church, schools and general finacial surpport.I base this on the fact that i have moved out of Lenasia 12 years ago and do frequent the Catholic church in Victoria (near de le sul school ) and i am amazed at what facilities they have aquire by being Catholics and our congregation has not moved anywhere in that direction in terms of shools and property.Where is the surpport and vision of the Pope and those that are in charge regarding progress. As much as we do not want to admit it ,it does go without saying Politics has been a big motivator regarding this.

dear your holiness
my name is tumelo and i would really like to express how thankful i am to have a bishop like you. people may complain about the money for the new building but i can only support you. this building is obviously for the best.
complaining wont help with anything, it is only when one develops a positive attitude that one realises things they could not before! keep up the excellent work!
Praised be Jesus Christ, and Mary immaculate

dear your holiness
the price mighty seem a bit too much but if we your people seize to complain and do as we asked then we might see this in a better light. you are our sherperd and we should follow. i do not think that you would thumbsuck such an amount.
God bless you

Your Grace, I would like to suggest that you consider that you recommend the prayers be said for you during the Mass by using both your names.
During these time of economic distress and the importance of work I believe the mention of Joseph will remind us of this great saint.
Sincerely

The picture of President Mugabe in The Star this morning receiving THE BODY OF CHRIST, is extremely disturbing.
How could the Vatican invite that man to the occasion of the Beatification when he has caused so much suffering to the people of Zimbabwe?
In my opinion it is a travesty of justice and mockery to what we Catholics stand for.
Yours respectfully

Your Grace
I have been fortunate to meet wonderful friends of the catholic faith, and their commitment to their faith made me realise that I am ready to accept the fullness of the Apostollic faith myself.
Me being baptised as a Presbyterian (protestant) I would love to know how to go about becoming a faithful catholic?

I think it is high time that the ArchBishop contact or work with Catholics who studied to work with people in any kind of development.
In our Catholic Church today or Churches in general we have people who are occupaying the spaces who those who really have the knowlegde and experience in the field of social sciences that incoporates all forces that distroyes a human person, paricularly young people.
I hope that Our ArchBishop will do something about this, it is good that people are scanned before they are given opportunities to work.

My Great Uncle lived in Johannesburg. His name was William (Bill) Carrick)
I belive he moved to South Africa in the 50's and sadly died in around 1977. His brother, working in Sierra Leone as a Missionary, was informed of his death, and so we can only imagine this was through the Church.
Unfortunately none of the family know anything about his life in Johannesburg. I would very much like to know more about him and any information I can pass onto the rest of the family would be gratefully received,
with kindest regards,
Cheryl Carrick

hi
how do i go about complaining too the bishop about groups and individuals making money at a parish and not declaring it to the community or to the bishop,
i have spoken too my priest and i am not happy with the answer i received. when our parrish counsil anounces our financial situation these funds raises are never included , we are talking big sums of money but other fund raising activities are mentioned i find this very desturbing , i might be terribly wrong and i will appoligise on this forum if i am but i need too know what is going on in my parish and if it is indeed one parish and not two i am sick and tired of feeling like i dont belong there , i have as much right as anyone else.
thanks
