Department of CatecheticsThe vision of catechesis is understood as an on-going journey of faith; a process of initiation into the life and mission of Christ. The ‘newness’ of this vision is based on the restoration of an ancient practice of initiating unbaptized adults into the Church. It is a ministry which evangelizes, renews and transforms Church communities and human society and promotes kingdom values in dialogue with all cultures in a spirit of enthusiasm and joy. Catechesis is grounded on Scripture, Doctrine, Liturgy and Witness, and incorporates the principles of the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA). The department trains catechists by presenting courses and training session at deanery and archdiocese levels. Training is arranged annually through the Evaluation and Planning meetings at both Deanery and Archdiocesan level. Contact us
Our office hours are from Monday to Friday 8.30 am to 3.30 pm

I like the move made by the Arch-Bishop Tlhagale, that Confirmation classes should last for 4 years. This equals to a University Honours Degree not even an undergraduate Degree or Diploma. I would therefore suggest that teachers for these classes to meet the following requirements 1. Possess a Tertiaty level qualification, 2. At least have more than 5 years as a practising Catholic 3. Continue to attend workshops organised by the Diocese e.g. Attending Evangelisation classes etc. This is a new challenge by the Arch-Bishop to the Diocese Coordinators; to run the JCJ Classes like the Education Dept does for our education in this country. Therefore, challenge is for the Diocese coordinators to draft; 1. similar Curriculum for all Parishes with similar written Exams at the end of each year!
People like myself; Possessing B.A., B.A. (Hons)Philosophy at RAU, persently doing M.A. (ICT) at Wits are an ideal to lecture these classes. If there's a few of us in the Diocese, it will mean taking more than 10 parishes. I will be much happy to help in the drafting of the Curriculum and to be contacted immediately in this NO 082 784 7154. I truly like to help and i will be much greatful if the Bishop gets this message unaltered. Thabo- St. Michael's (Meadowlands Parish)
