The Diocese of Johannesburg owns 12 schools, the running costs of which are met by the subsidy received from the Gauteng Education Department and the school fees paid by the parents.

In these schools the maintenance, upgrading of buildings, buying and replacing of equipment, development of playing fields etc. are all part of the responsibility of the schools, for which there is often little or no money after running costs have been met. It is for this reason that the late Bishop Reginald Orsmond initiated the Diocesan Educational Trust, with the support of the Superiors of a number of the Religious Teaching Orders.

The Trust is totally dependent on funding received from generous Catholics in the Diocese in response to Annual Mail Appeals, as also donations which have been received from a number of corporate organizations for specific projects. We also have a number of generous donors in Belgium and among UK Catholic Schools.
