Vocations Current EventsAt the Diocesan level, we organise a SUNDAY EVENT once a year, close to The Good Shepherd Sunday, at Cathedral Place, where the youth of the parishes are invited to attend. The Cathedral hall is decorated with stalls set up by each Congregation and the Diocesan Priests. In 2004 this day took place on 16 May. We started with Mass, assisted by two vibrant Youth Choirs from Soweto, then, after a short ice-breaker, Thuli, a young person from Pimville, gave her input on what 'vocation' means to her, how one needs to take quiet time to get into God's presence and get in touch with one's deeper self in order to discover what one's own life is meant to be. It was all very inspiring and helpful. We had lunch together, followed by a visit to the stalls. Then we listened to four testimonies and how each one discovered his/her own vocation: a Missionary from Mexico; a Holy Family sister from Sri Lanka; a diocesan priest who grew up in one of the townships of Johannesburg and a brother.
ACCOMPANIMENT PROGRAMMEIn 2003, after a weekend for young people who felt a possible to the Priesthood or Religious Life, we established a monthly meeting for 'accompaniment' for those who are serious enough to continue their search and preparation.
These meetings took place on every last Sunday of each month and were well attended:
